Weekly UpdateMarch 8, 2019
Students have been working in a unit involving 2D and 3D geometry. They have worked with finding area and circumference of circles then moved into area of compound figures. They finished the unit with investigating surface area and volume and will have an exam next week. January 18, 2019 Over the last two weeks the 7th grade has been introduced to topics related to angles. They have learned about relationships between angles on a line, at a point and in a triangle. There has been a fair amount of new ideas and terms that all build into students creating and solving equations, checking solutions and reasoning about their answers. At the end of next week the students will have an exam on the topic. November 12 - 30 The students worked through a Percents unit which finished with a two part exam including some focused CER response questions that help increase writing and reasoning skills. We have opened a new unit on Expressions and Equations and the students have been looking at combining like terms, the distributive property and factoring. A quick apology, as I have been sick and missed a few days recently. I will have grades updated in powerschool this weekend. October 22nd - November 2nd After completing the Proportional Relationships Unit, students spent most of our week working on district benchmarks. We started a unit on Percents with a review and this week have been focusing on finding Whole Units, Percents and Parts given different situational information. Our focus has been around the using and rewriting the equation Part = Percent x Whole. October 8th - October 19th We continued working on the topic of proportional relationships. We looked at how x is multiplied by a unit rate to find y. This was exemplified in graphs, equations and we connected it to the idea of scale drawings and how the scale factor, constant of proportionality and unit rate are all the same. The students finished the unit with an exam at the end of the week. September 24th-October 4 We have had a shortened schedule this week but over the last two weeks we have been looking at proportional relationships. We are looking into how x and y connect with each other in linear patterns exemplified by graphs tables and from context. Week of September 17 This week our students had their first exam. The exam covered combining rational numbers meaning adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers, fractions and decimals and deciding when to use each in certain situations. Week of August 27 We started content this week and students were given workbooks. Students engaged with the idea of negative numbers and their uses. We also have started adding positive and negative numbers including fractions and decimals mentally and with aide of a number line. |
