Weekly UpdateMarch 8, 2019
Students have finished a unit on similarity. The second half of the unit was an introduction to trigonometry. Students were finding missing side lengths and angle measure of right triangles then moved into finding the same values in non right triangles via the law of sines and cosines. They have started a small unit on 3D geometry involving volume, surface area and scale factors to begin with. January 18, 2019 Over the last two weeks we have started a new unit about similarity. We have worked with constructions, specifically dilations, to create re-sized polygons with a compass and ruler. We finished this week with investigating similarity in triangles and as well as the proportional relationships that they carry with them. We will have a mid module exam at the end of next week. November 12 - November 30 The students have been working through their first geometry unit. They started with constructions and moved into proofs. This week they completed their mid module exam on the two topics. We will be moving into transformations by construction and triangle congruency. A quick apology, as I have been sick and missed a few days recently. I will have grades updated in powerschool this weekend. October 22nd - November 2nd The students completed a unit on quadratics and then took and end of module exam. They also worked on the district benchmarks and started a mandala/design assignment to get used to working with compasses as we move into our first geometry unit next week. October 8th - October 19th The students brought the unit on quadratics to an end. We derived the quadratic formula and looked into what its' parts determine (vertex and number of real solutions). We transformed graphs and then had a 2 period study time at the end of the week in preparation for the upcoming exam. September 24th-October 4 During the last few weeks we have continued to look at quadratic functions. We have completed graphing and special factoring cases and have also looking at optimizing quadratics looking for maximum and minimum values in real world problems. The students have a mid module exam on Monday. Week of September 17 The students received their first exams back and I was very happy with their effort, determination and drive. We have started our next unit on Polynomials and Quadratic Functions. Our task this week has been working toward mastering factoring of quadratic equations which is a essential skill for this unit. Week of August 27 We started content this week and students were given workbooks. Students started working with different types of sequences while seeking out pattern recognition leading into formal definitions. Students began to explore exponential growth and decay as well as compound and simple interest. |
